A friend of mine is a local dentist in Southern California. He basically deals with a lot of patients who have let their teeth go too far and so he focuses on getting their teeth back to tip top condition. I discussed with him my plans to travel to a national park this summer and asked “what is the biggest question you get from your patients”. He mentioned that many of them complain about forgetting their toothbrush and if there is anything that you can do to still maintain your teeth, either in the plane or while traveling in a vehicle (basically where there isn’t access to a toothbrush). Here are some tips that he recommended:
- If you have access to a paper towel, you can use some toothpaste and water and begin working at each tooth to help attack the visible plague that you find.
- Sometimes you don’t have both the toothpaste or the toothbrush, and in that case you can use salt water or baking soda as a replacement for the toothpaste.
- If none of those are available just use water and your clean paper towel or napkin to brush each tooth.
These are some ways to help minimize the plaque buildup until you get a new toothbrush and toothpaste and can begin the cleaning regimen again. Overall, keeping your teeth healthy can be a major preventative step to having to get comprehensive cosmetic dentistry in the Laguna Hills area done in the future.
